From 1 July 2026, every online betting operator serving Irish customers needs a GRAI remote betting licence — and the GRAI's public register of licence-holders is now live. Online casino licensing is a separate phase that has not yet opened. This page tracks both.

Important: the GRAI maintains the authoritative public licence register. Statuses below are editorial summaries and can go out of date — always verify directly with the GRAI before depositing money anywhere.

Remote betting (online bookmakers)

The first GRAI remote betting and betting intermediary licences commenced on 1 July 2026, and the GRAI's public licence register is now live and updated regularly. The register currently shows 35 licence entries: 34 remote betting and remote betting intermediary licences (listed below), plus one in-person betting licence, which belongs to the separate retail-betting category rather than the online directory here. Licensed operators must verify age, pay out winnings, close accounts on request, and may not accept credit cards or facilitate gambling on credit.

The register is the source of truth — and it lists companies, not websites. The GRAI register publishes each licensee's legal and trading name but not its consumer website address, so a brand you recognise may appear under an unfamiliar company name. Always confirm a specific operator on the official GRAI licence register before depositing. Each entry below is in register order and links to its official GRAI page. The brand names are our own research — cross-checked against independent sources and the GRAI licence numbers, since the register itself does not publish them. Where we could not confirm a brand to our standard, we say so plainly. The GRAI entry remains the authoritative record.

A note on licence sub-types

The table above combines two related remote categories the GRAI issues: standard remote betting licences (online sportsbooks and telephone betting) and remote betting intermediary licences (operators of peer-to-peer betting exchanges, such as Betfair and Smarkets). Each operator's GRAI register page states its exact licence number, sub-type and issue date. Separately, the register also lists in-person (retail) betting licences, which aren't shown here because this page covers online operators only.

Remote gaming (online casino)

Online casino products — slots, roulette, blackjack and other games of chance played online — fall under the Act's remote gaming licence category. As of October 2026 the GRAI is not yet accepting remote gaming applications; this category is expected to open in a later phase. No operator can hold a GRAI online casino licence until it does.

Our editorial rule: licensed casinos are listed as a neutral public reference, with no affiliate or paid links — just the operator, licence number, and a plain link to their site.
